SS Chapters 8-10

What do you think of the plot so far? Is Widge going to escape from Falconer? Will he be accepted into the company? How will the second gravedigger and Nick block his acceptance? Will Widge cross paths with Shakespeare himself? Was everyone in Elizabethan England racist?! Inquiring minds want to know....

  1. I think the plot is a little good because he keeps forgetting things and now is in some old guys house.I think that he could if he fled London. Yes. They will probably make fun of him and say that is was never one of them. Doubt it. Yes!

  2. I think that Widge is now in a tough position and that during his stay with the actors, he will learn about his love of the theatre and will want to stay in it. But I think Nick and the cannoneer will stop him from enjoying his stay. Also I think that the majority of people were racist because from the Crusades. Also during the year 1290, Queen Elizabeth I exiled all the Jews from England. (More to come tonight)

  3. I'm liking the plot so far. While looking for what religion Shakespeare was I found that his parents were Catholic and were friends with the father of the head conspirator in the Gun Powder Plot. I've put the link below.

  4. David,
Edward I banished the Jews in 1290, not Elizabeth, although she didn't overturn their banishment. Shakespeare has a lot of anti-semitism in his plays, especially Merchant of Venice, with the Jewish villain Shylock.

  5. In chapters 10-13 It was a little better than the more recent chapters because is at least tries to get the journal back or even better a entire copy of the play Hamlet.I think that I would to try to get away from Falconer in the market place for one major reason, because falconer can track you down and kill you. A good example of this is when Falconer is called "A dirty Jew" and he kills the man like it did not mean anything to him. They probably can't track you down because the are players. The only downside is if you are ever spotted by the players again they could get you arrested for sort of bootlegging Shakespeare's play.

  6. Chapter 14-16 were a little interesting because when he had finally gotten his hands on teh script it was taken away from him by Jack. You would think that he would be smart enough to leave instead of staying because he had gotten one compliment. So that part was a little weird but besides that, the chapters were exiting and kept you wanting to read more. I had decided to reasearch a little about the thing that Falconer had said to Widge. Every Jew in Engaland is either gone or a former Jew. So when I was researching I found that this was mostly true. My source is stated below.

  7. Connor, I also think that Jack is suspicious of Widege's doings. Also from reading the Shakespeare stealer, it gave more information about the Jewish Exile. Dr. Lopez was a Jew and tried to poison Queen Elizabeth I. And Dr. Lopez was hanged. Also the Jews had to renounce their religion or be banished.(pg. 118)Also when we were reading Hamlet in class, I found it quite hard to understand it's language, so I was curious if someone had made a version translated into modern English. I found one and it helped a lot in understanding parts I didn't understand. I hope it helps you also. ^-^>
